South African Highlights: Spring Flowers

By on November 24, 2014

Probably one of the most breathtaking sights you’ll ever see in South Africa is the long stretch of spring flowers in full bloom. Imagine the normally dry landscape being filled with thousands of flowers in every possible color. The best sites to see these blooms are in Cape West Coast, Namaqualand, and in Cedarberg. These parts of South Africa receive very little rain. However, from May to August, the rainfall soothes the dryness of the soil and makes it possible for the spring flowers to flourish.

Note that the number of flowers that can be seen is not the same every year. The climatic conditions play a big role in determining whether plenty of flowers can be seen or not. There has to be an enough amount of rainfall to make this possible. A steady number of cold fronts will contribute to a beautiful flower season. Not only this, the spring weather is also very important. If it gets warm to soon, there won’t be a lot of time to experience the flowers. Also, for tourists to be able to enjoy viewing the flowers, it is important to not have too much rain during springtime.
