You will raft the Pacuare River, hike in the Bananito rainforest, and relax on the beaches of the Caribbean. All of the ecolodges we have picked offer a relaxed, secluded stay. Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival in San Jose Costa Rica. Today you will spend the night at the Hotel don Carlos, located in downtown San Jose. Enjoy a delicious dinner and night out in town this evening.

Day 2 - Today you will catch a morning ride to the Pacuare River. You will take a day pack with you and leave the rest of your luggage with Pacuare Lodge staff. After reaching the put-in, you will raft down the river to the lodge. You will arrive in the early afternoon and have the rest of the day to explore the area around the lodge. All meals are provided during your stay at Pacuare Lodge.

Day 3 - Today it is time to head down to the to Selva Bananito Lodge on the Bananito River. Here you will find some of the most pristine rainforest in the country and plenty of wildlife. We will arrange for the opportunity to learn about the watershed ecology of La Amistad National Park. Selva Bananito is located on the park’s protected buffer zone, and offers tours that highlight their role in protecting the delicate ecosystem.

Day 4 - Today you will wake to the sound of the rainforest as all the wildlife rises with the sun. After an all-natural organic breakfast, it will be time to head out for a little adventure. An optional tour today is Selva Bananito’s exciting waterfall rappel and rainforest hike. You will hike past diverse wildlife and ancient trees to a majestic waterfall, where you will rappel down the falls with professional guides.

Day 5 - Today you can enjoy a morning birding tour led by Selva Bananito local ornithologists. In the afternoon, you can take a horseback tour of the surrounding grounds. Be sure to bring your camera to capture the breathtaking vistas and the rainbow of colors in the heliconia flower garden.

Day 6 - Today you will travel to Puerto Viejo and La Costa de Papito. You will be picked up in the morning and taken directly to Papito. Once you arrive, you will have the rest of the day to check in and enjoy the beach.

Day 7 - Today is a day at leisure on the beach. You will have all day to explore all that La Costa de Papito has to offer. The hotel has its own massage therapist on staff, as well as bicycle rentals, surfing and more. There is plenty to do, and of course, you can do nothing if you wish! Enjoy your time in paradise.

Day 8 - Today’s activities will highlight the cultural elements associated with La Amistad National Park. After breakfast, you will meet your transfer and guide who will take you to the Bribri Cultural Center. The Center highlights the cultural aspects of La Amistad, focusing on the importance of local flora and fauna on local community.

Day 9 - Today it is time to head home after an adventure of fun and discovery. After breakfast, we will arrange for a transport to your flight for the return trip to San Jose. Once you land will we have a shuttle ready to take you to the International Airport for your flight home.

Highlighted World Heritage Site

La Amistad National Park

The location of this unique site in Central America, where Quaternary glaciers have left their mark, has allowed the fauna and flora of North and South America to interbreed. Tropical rainforests cover most of the area. Four different Indian tribes inhabit this property, which benefits from close co-operation between Costa Rica and Panama.
