Volcanoes

Costa Rica is made up of a rugged topography that changes dramatically throughout the country. The Cordillera de Guanacaste, Cordillera Central, and Cordillera de Talamanca are the principal mountain ranges extending the length of the country. Within these mountain ranges are several active volcanoes (Volcán Arenal, Volcán Irazú, Volcán Rincón de la Vieja and Volcán Turrialba) as well as a number of non-active volcanoes (Volcán Barva, Volcán Poas, Volcán Oras, Volcán Miravalles, Volcán Tenorio, Volcán Platanar). Each Volcano is located within a national park and many offer guided tours. Check out our interactive map for more information and location of each volcanoe.
