surfing

Costa Rica has become famous for its great waves. The Pacific, with is long point breaks, river mouths, and beach breaks, keeps surfers, busy all year. Guanacaste and the Central Pacific are better in the windy seasons from December through March. From April through November, the whole coast swells from the south and southwest. If they want to get serious surfers to the Atlantic from December through March, where waves from deep water break over the shallow reef, creating the perfect imitation of Hawaiian surf. The Atlantic Coast also has a "winter" season from June through August.

With 755 miles of coastline on two oceans, Costa Rica can have one flat ocean while the other has amazing breaks. Depending on the season, a surfer can find lots of different kinds of breaks, no matter their skill level.
