With two oceans, beautiful freshwater lakes, and endless miles of magnificent rivers – all only a few hours drive or minutes by air from the capital city of San Jose – Costa Rica offers anglers some of the most fantastic and diverse sportfishing in the world.

For the freshwater angler, Lake Arenal and many rivers that flow to the Caribbean Sea provide outstanding action on rainbow bass. There are trout in the mountain rivers, and a range of such exotic species as the machaca, bobo, mojarra, and vieja to be found in lower elevation waters.

But Costa Rica’s greatest claim to fame is the incredible deep-sea fishing for sailfish, marlin, tuna, wahoo, and more than a dozen other species on the Pacific Coast, and what is without a doubt the world’s finest tarpon and snook angling on the Caribbean.
